The UW is rated one of the 15 greenest colleges in the country by the Princeton Review.

From the UW website:
Founded in 1861 by a private gift of 10 acres in what is now the heart of downtown Seattle, the UW is one of the oldest public universities on the West Coast. We're deeply committed to upholding the responsibility that comes with that legacy. And being public has always meant being accessible.
At the UW, students do more than take notes. They're actively creating one of the most vibrant intellectual communities in the country. We have over 250 degree options, more than 70 languages to study, 500 student organizations to join and over 7,000 undergraduate research opportunities.
Fostering Citizenship: Here and Abroad. For the fourth year in a row, the UW ranks No. 1 in providing U.S. Peace Corps volunteers, with more than 100 alumni serving worldwide. More than 2,000 undergraduate students participate in study abroad programs each year. The UW ranked No. 9 in the U.S. among all institutions in this category.
Housing:
The Residential Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs) offer a living and learning experience that assists students in negotiating the transition to college and provides the foundation for a strong collegiate experience. Students live in Lander Hall, the First Year Experience Hall, with students enrolled in their autumn quarter classes and with other new students.
