From the UdeM website: Universite de Montreal was founded in 1878, and has grown into a large, francophone institution that offers 650 undergraduate programs. Along with two affiliated schools, the ecole Polytechnique and the HEC Montreal, U de M is now the largest university in Quebec and the second largest in Canada. Montreal is music and UdeM is a vital part of the city's music scene. Home to one of Canada's most dynamic faculties of music, U de M is part of over 500 public events and attracts over 100,000 people each year.

Students whose previous studies were not delivered entirely in French will be required to pass an exam to demonstrate their mastery French language at a university level.
